Using only 8 pins per side, the Black Kats lacked the grip and concavity of the other pedals in the test. They are the thinnest pedals I reviewed, but this comes at a cost.

I really dislike the look of the current crop of flat-pedal-specific footwear. They either resemble ugly bowling/golf shoes, or clown shoes. Give me a sweet pair of Vans any day. Better designs, better feel/comfort, a lot less expensive, and just plain cooler.

I’ve only ever used flats so can’t comment on a comparison. I haven’t seen a compelling enough reason to spend more on new shoes and pedals.

First of all, if you’re thinking of trying clipless pedals, just do it. Make the change. Really. The difference is amazing: More power transfer. Better efficiency. More control. Okay, they also cause the occasional fall, but they’re totally worth it!
