But transitioning a car commuter or two or 20 or 300 to an e-bike can’t hurt, right? Bicycling advocates in the U.S. see e-bikes as an opening for increased cycling participation. Another option for shoe manufactures is to use Velcro straps, sometimes in combination with a ratchet strap or a Boa dial (see below) as on these Fizik M6B Donna shoes. There are usually two or three Velcro straps and these can be placed in an offset design to reduce pressure over the foot. Velcro is quick and easy to use and they hold the shoe firmly in place, but it is easy to overdo tightening one and end up feeling like part of your foot has been clamped, we found it hard to adjust the Velcro on the Giro Manta shoes we reviewed recently but this isn’t always the case, the Fizik shoe design worked well.

The speed I can clip in now off the lights is wicked. Actually feels a bit show-offy it’s that smooth and fast. I also rub a little lube on the cleat spring every weekend, that makes it super smooth to clip in too now.

Overall, I was impressed with the improvements in Time’s new Xpro 10. They’re not cheap by any means, but the carbon fairing looks great, clipping in and out is a simple affair, and they’re nice and light. I’ll try to get to the bottom of the squeaking and update if and when, but based on the testimony of my colleague and most other users, it appears this is only affecting a minority.

Or just buy a shoe from their RT range which are road shoes with smooth ‘touring’ soles. I have RT82s currently. They use the same last as my XC mtb shoes so it’s an easy swap and I know I’m comfortable in either.
