HT’s PA03A pedals might not have the snappiest of names, but when it comes to getting boatloads of grip from a durable and comfortable platform at a bargain price, it’s a name worth remembering as they’re the ones to beat. They are pretty cheap and fairly light too at 351g for the pair. That makes it eminently easy to overlook any small flaws and if you’re into the whole colour matching thing, there’s a huge palette of finishes to choose from.

Hey, we’re all adults here, so let’s be honest: sometimes you’ve got ulterior motives over the holidays, and giving a gift is less about pleasing someone than it is about teaching them a much-needed lesson. When it comes to clipless pedals, Look is undoubtedly the most iconic. Inspired by the clip-in ski bindings they were already famous for, Look turned to cycling in 1984 and were the first to introduce a truly revolutionary pedal system that was the first to move away from the traditional toe clip/strap system. A lot has changed since those early days, and the 235-gram Keo Blade Carbon is the entry-level carbon offering in Look’s three-model family of Blade pedals that comprises their Race category. The pedal body is carbon and houses either a chromoly steel or titanium axle. There is a larger axle and spindle design that has been updated for 2018. This means a larger roller bearing and 25 percent more space between it and the needle bearing that is directly under the pedal platform.

There are complications. Sales of e-bikes for Clark County-based retailers are just as challenging as they are for conventional bikes because of competition from no-sales-tax Oregon. Web competitors bedevil local dealers as well. Safety is perhaps an even bigger concern than with conventional bikes, partly because e-bikes are attracting an older rider whose skills may be rusty and unprepared for the speeds an e-bike can easily attain.

Not only the lightest on test, the X2s are the thinnest too at just 15.5mm. Combined with the low-profile mechanism, ground clearance is exceptional, and they provide a more natural feel throughout the pedal stroke compared to thicker pedals. The large 85mm x 95mm body and concave profile allows your shoes to sink into the platform, while flat side sections minimise rocking. Traction is bolstered by five steel pins on each side, though we’d recommend adding a dab of Loctite on the threads. We’ve lost a few.

In that context, the Shimano A600 offers a tough-to-beat package that combines a sleek appearance, relatively low weight, outstanding bearing durability, and a very approachable price point.

Now I couldn’t use anything else. They are just pheneomenal compared to the various Looks I usually use. They need broken in first of all as the spring is super stiff, but once done then it only takes a little force to clip in. Actually finding the insert point is a few weeks of muscle memory (I stuck them on the indoor trainer first which sped this process up).

I’ve 2 bikes with Di2, it’s faultless and you dontd need to buy brand new, most of my hardware is 2nd hand, and has been perfect.

Not that I’m in the market for light pedals myself, as I’m quite happy with my SPD’s for commute/CX duties and my Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals on the road bike. Hard to beat when it comes to performace/durability/cost considerations.
