Time Xpresso pedals are popular because they’re easy to click into, offer just the right amount of float adjustment for many riders and they’re light. At about 220g per pair the entry level Xpresso 2s only weigh 25g more than the carbon Xpresso 8s at £124.99.

Many flat pedals use commonly available steel M4 socket caps or grub screws, which makes replacing pins cheap and easy. Some companies are pushing at the limits of pin design though, tweaking them to maximise grip, lower weight, or sometimes to be less aggressive.

Scarabs look great, but a bit pricey. Still, if I go back to metal pedals, I may have to thy them. The shear line on the pins seems like a great idea, can we just get those for any pedal? As far as the Synth, not really a version of the Scarab, they look about the same as Raceface Chesters, just with one pin more.

A surprisingly good all around tire. Looking at the tread pattern I had these initially pegged for mud duty, but they’ve performed surprisingly well on mixed surfaces. A closer inspection shows a consistent line of center knobs that roll surprisingly well on hard ground, making this a great choice for gravel racing and cyclocross where you’re hopping between different surfaces.
