This does seem to be an advantage with this type of cleat, if it’s in the right place most of the time you just set off pedalling and the clipping in happens automatically. No stomping required.
As you go up in the Shimano hierarchy things get a little more refined and a little lighter. These pedals wouldn’t be out of place on an XC racer, but can be turned to much more than just that.
You’re pretty much guaranteed to live your life at a slower pace in sandals, so I wouldn’t be surprised if someone claims they’re the next must-have accessory for a more wholesome life on a bike.
That said, Di2 is customisable. You could reconfigure the system and make the button that’s hidden at the top of each hood perform upshifts, for example, to sidestep any problem.
The simplicity and double-sided nature also mean they’re easy to get into and they’re light, too.

I’ve actually been quite pleased with how secure the strap feels, and it keeps my heel planted in the shoe through the upstroke. The velcro strap also keeps the ends of the laces lashed down and out of the way.
