On the other hand (or foot), dispensing with the ritual of clipping in and out and opting for flat pedals at least some of the time will keep you in touch with why you love riding bikes in the first place. Mavic now sells wheel ‘systems’. If you buy a set of their wheels, they come equipped with matching tyres. Also into my third year but with EPS. Haven’t regretted it for a second. Effortless and trouble free gear changing especially when braking. I’m thinking of replacing my touring bike and I hope I can get it fitted with triple electronic shifting.

It’s an issue also reported by James, and one that he has remedied in the past by changing to aftermarket cleats from Exustar.

This is important! Don’t wait until the last minute to unclip. "As you’re rolling to a stop, shift your weight to the foot that stays clipped in," Compton explains, "and then unclip the foot that you’ll put on the ground and just leave it gently on the pedal, so when you do come to that stop you can put your foot on the ground quickly."
